For my photo emulation I chose to emulate an image of Clark Kent. My fellow classmate was able to help me out with this process. I chose to use a studio portrait. The image seems as if was used for some type of magazine or advertisement. In the photo, the light it shining straight down on to his face. In the original image, the light is shining down more from the left side, and in the emulation, more from the right.
The contrast of both photos is evenly balanced between the lightest and the darkest points, including his shirt and hair. The re-created image is a bit over exposed compared to the original, but I feel as if it still works. The whole image is completely in focus, meaning the photographer must have used a fast shutter speed.. No special effects are added in to the image, and both photos were taken straight on.
They are symmetrical and balanced, incorporating the rule of thirds. The clear focal point is the person in the picture, being Clark Kent and Eric. The photograph appears to have been taken vertically, but the original image was cut in to a 'square shape' meaning that it could of very well been taken horizontally and cropped. I chose to take my image vertically, and then crop it in to the same square shape. the photo ineffective the way that it is.
Depth of foreground, middle ground, and background were not used while taking this studio portrait. Clark Kent's photo was created to lead you eyes among the photo, using his strong jawline, and smirk. I emulated this photo by using the same colored backdrop, with a similar clothing style and notions. I always cropped the image in the same style and attempted to re- create the lighting at the best of my ability.
